Planner & Project Director for GNHCC

Contracted to spearhead the 2023 Greater Newark Healthcare Coalition Maternal Health Awareness Day Community Healing Event.  With 55+ in attendance, we achieved the following: 

  1. Raised awareness about perinatal mental health while finding concrete strategies to improve mental health well-being

  2. Helped to work towards eliminating the stigma around mental health in the Black and Brown community and all communities

  3. Recognized the need to acknowledge and tell the truth about past wrongs

Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support Group Facilitator 

Founded and facilitated the monthly virtual Pregnancy & Infant Loss Peer Support Group for the Partnership of Maternal Child & Health for Northern New Jersey.  Created and provided a program that empowers participants, including tips and resources needed to get back to a place where they can live with their loss healthily.  We believe good grief support should be:

  1. Free

  2. Empowering

  3. Easily accessible

  4. A community around shared experiences

  5. Not limiting support to just the women and mothers

Co-Facilitator for Peer Health Educator Training 

Contracted to Co-facilitate in-person Peer Health Education Training and webinars for Central Jersey Family Health Consortium (CJFHC).   We designed and facilitated educational presentations for peer health educators on the following topics:

  1. Female and male preconception health and care

  2. Lifespan and social determinants of health 

  3. Health disparities

  4. Infant and maternal mortality

Facilitator for Young Parents Workshop 

Contracted to facilitate in-person workshops for Young Parents Program (YPP) and Maternal Mental Health for Young Parents for the Seleni Institute.  We designed and facilitate workshops to aid young adults ages 14-25  and to support professionals working with pregnant and parenting adolescents.  We aim to aid them to be more emotionally available and nurturing parents by teaching.:

  1. Emotional regulation skills

  2. Anger and stress management skills 

  3.  At risk-behaviors to be aware of

Expert Panelist 

Served as an expert panelist for the APHA Public Health Nursing Section's 5th Annual Racism Pre-conference event, "Birthing while Black: The Impact of Obstetric Violence and Responses to Systemic Racism in Maternal Health." We focused on the following:

  1. Increased dialogue and visibility of racism as a maternal and public health issue

  2. Characterized obstetric violence from the experiences of Black birthing families

  3. Identified ways to support individuals who are experiencing obstetric violence
